Job Description & Qualifications
Design, implement and maintain databases and oversee performance. Analyze table storage parameters and file system layout and size to ensure maximum performance. Develop utilities and programs to assist with task automation, data manipulation and integration. Monitor automated tasks.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities
Partners with Sr. DBA's to create physical database structures for small projects based on physical design for development, test, and production environments.
Performs routine maintenance, including upgrades and patches. Resolves issues via service tickets. Performs daily data back-up and recovery as needed. Generates scheduled and ad hoc reports.
Partners with Sr. DBA's and engineers to configure servers for DBMS product installation and small database creation.
Provides on-call support for assigned databases 24/7 to include investigating and troubleshooting problems.
Configures and maintains DBMS product software on small database and application servers.
Manages conversions of data from legacy/acquired systems as required. Reports escalated issues to Sr. DBA.
Monitors and adjusts database parameters for better performance.
Assists application teams with tuning of SQL statements.
Nature and Scope
Demonstrates skill in data analysis techniques by resolving missing/incomplete information and inconsistencies/anomalies in more complex research/data.
Nature of work requires increasing independence; receives guidance only on unusual, complex problems or issues. Work review typically involves periodic review of output by a supervisor and/or direct customers of the process.
May provide general guidance/direction to or train junior level support or professional personnel.
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Education and Experience
Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 2-5 years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 2-4 years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.
Preferred Qualifications & Job Specific Details
This role is responsible for the development, implementation, and testing of custom marketing database applications with emphasis on database/table/view design, workflow automation and data extraction, transformation, and load programs. The Database Developer will work with the internal project delivery team to design solutions and implement programs according to the requirements and timelines for all marketing database projects. The ideal candidate will be deadline focused, detail oriented, organized, and self-motivated with the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and manage time efficiently.
Works with project management and agile teams to understand the business requirements, functional and technical specifications.
Analyzes and defines data flow requirements and prepares applicable system documentation and operation manuals, as required.
Design tables and views that adhere to database normalization standards, achieves high performance, and provides necessary security restrictions.
Develop using core solution standards and implements initial data loads for database marketing projects.
Performs transformation and loading of data according to the business specifications.
Supports production data loads and ongoing refreshes of the database systems.
Defines, prepares, executes, and implements data validation and unit testing methods to ensure data quality.
Performs enhancements and bug fixes as required.
Maintain re-useable development standards that help implement each solution and/or enhancements to existing systems to meet current and future needs.
Must have strong experience in SQL Server packages, stored procedures, functions, indexes, and bulk load functionalities.
Must have superior scripting & automation skills to support file loading process and task automation.
3+ years of overall database development experience
3+ years of experience of SQL Server development and data architecture
3+ years of experience of SQL Server SSIS packages and ETL
3+ years of experience in scripting on Windows platforms using PowerShell & batch commands
3+ years of experience in Windows batch scripts/been able to create API calls
3+ years of experience in data warehouse development
.NET programming (C#/VB) not required but highly desired
Database Performance Tuning
Working knowledge of Snowflake and Microsoft Azure
Experience in marketing
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills & ability to troubleshoot problems quickly
Self-motivated to learn new applications and domains
Strong time management skills & ability to take full ownership of tasks and projects
Team player with good interpersonal skills with good verbal and written communication
